ABOUT
Background
J. Tashof Bernton, MD graduated from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He completed subsequent internship and residency training in both internal medicine and occupational medicine. Dr. Bernton holds board certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Preventive Medicine in Occupational Medicine, as well as certification from the American College of Thermography.
Dr. Bernton's primary focus is diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal injuries, particularly those affecting the back, neck, and myofascial pain. His practice has encompassed a range of therapies, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), medications, physical therapy, and prescription of spinal injections. Additionally, he performs peripheral joint and trigger point injections, and has extensive experience treating automobile injuries, including mild traumatic brain injury.
Dr. Bernton is a leading expert in the diagnosis and treatment of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), qualified to interpret thermographic diagnostic imaging. He founded the first Colorado facility for diagnosis of CRPS combining thermography and Quantitative Sudomotor Autonomic Testing (QSART).

EXPERIENCE
Professional Experience
Dr. Bernton has decades of experience in musculoskeletal medicine, having previously founded and directed a multi-site occupational medicine practice. His experience has included medical direction of the HealthONE Occupational Medicine Clinic System and faculty service in the initial Level II Accreditation program of the Colorado Division of Workers' Compensation. He holds Level II full accreditation from the Division.
His occupational medicine experience has also included assessment and treatment of toxic exposures including carbon monoxide, volatile organic solvent exposure, and both patient and environmental assessment of mold exposures.
Dr. Bernton has performed hundreds of independent medical evaluations and forensic medical record reviews. He has particular expertise in evaluating cases in which traumatic or musculoskeletal injuries occur in the context of ongoing chronic disease, and in assessing causation in medically complex cases.
Dr. Bernton's internal medicine training and experience has allowed him to accurately assess the relative contributions of injury and medical conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions. He is a recognized expert in the assessment of medical causation, both within and outside of the work-related occupational medicine system.
