Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

Evaluation of concussion and mild TBI, including automobile injuries. Causation assessment and clinical evaluation for medically complex cases with persistent post-concussive symptoms.

Back to Services

Mild traumatic brain injury and concussion represent a growing area of clinical concern. Despite being classified as "mild," these injuries can produce persistent cognitive, emotional, and physical symptoms that significantly impact a patient's daily functioning and quality of life. Dr. Bernton provides thorough evaluation of concussion and mild TBI, including automobile injuries and causation assessment in medically complex cases.

The diagnostic approach to mild TBI requires careful neurological assessment, detailed history of the mechanism of injury, and systematic evaluation of post-concussive symptoms. Dr. Bernton considers the full clinical picture, including pre-existing conditions, comorbidities, and psychosocial factors that may complicate diagnosis and attribution of symptoms. Neuroimaging findings, neuropsychological testing results, and vestibular assessments are integrated into a comprehensive clinical opinion.

Dr. Bernton provided input to the Colorado Division of Workers' Compensation in the formation of the Medical Treatment Guidelines for Traumatic Brain Injury. His evaluations provide clear clinical opinions on whether an injury meets diagnostic criteria, whether reported symptoms are causally related to a specific event, and what constitutes reasonable and necessary treatment.
